Walpole Sportsman's Association, Inc.

Welcome to the Youth Shooting program

The Walpole Youth Shotgun Program was started in 2009 by a group of volunteer members of the Walpole Sportsman’s Association. We are members of and model our program around the Scholastics Clay Targets Program (SCTP). The SCTP is a national youth shooting organization supported by the Scholastics Shooting Sports Foundation, The National Shooting Sports Foundation, USA Shooting, Midway USA and the national governing bodies of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association, National Skeet Shooting Association and the National Sporting Clays Association and many shooting industry vendors.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation is an educational-athletic organization that exists to introduce school-age youths to the clay target sports and to facilitate their continued involvement by providing, promoting, and perpetuating opportunities to safely and enjoyably participate and compete in a high-quality, team-based sport led by trained adult coaches focused on enhancing the personal growth and development of their athletes.

The Mission of the WSA Youth Shotgun Sports program is to introduce young Athletes (boys and girls) in grades 6 thru 12 to clay target sports, specifically Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays; instill the tenets of Firearms Safety; learn proper techniques and rules of etiquette of each sport and participate in clay targets shooting sports in a team environment.

The intent of the Walpole Sportsman’s Youth Shotgun Sports Program is to teach beginners the fundamentals of clay target sports and then refine those skills to become competent and competitive athletes. Athletes will be introduced to other clay target sports such as Skeet, Sporting Clay’s and 5-Stand. Coaches will prepare these athletes to have respect for each other, respect the game, honor the rules; become safe and responsible members of the club and our community.

Walpole Sportsman’s goal is to sustain and grow a youth shooting program that increases participation in the sport, instills fairness & respect, teaches proper etiquette, and builds confidence in these youngsters while focusing on firearms and range safety, individual and team instruction and team competition. We will compete against teams from other clubs around the state with the ultimate goal of competing in Massachusetts State Shoot and qualify for National competition held in Sparta Illinois each July.

We begin with the fundamentals of Trap Shooting and gradually introduce team members to Skeet and Sporting Clays. Our core competency will remain Trap Shooting as it creates the fundamental skills necessary for other clay target sports.
