Walpole Sportsman’s Association
17 th Annual Combat Pistol League Turkey Shoot
Saturday, November 17 th , 2018
10:00AM to 3:00PM, Rain or Shine, Public invited (bring your friends!)
Entry Fee: $15.00, time permitting, you may re-shoot the entire course of fire a second time
(re-entry) for $8.00. Exact change is appreciated. All entries are eligible for the prizes.
Prizes will be awarded on a modified Lewis basis; any ties will be settled by shoot off. If a
shooter is not present for their shoot off, they will automatically forfeit.
The course of fire will consist of two stages; shooters will fire each stage twice, your final
score is the total of all four of your stage scores.
Shooting will be in the order that entrants sign up, re-entries are added to the end of the list
(the back of the line, so to speak).
Minimum pistol caliber: 9mm, minimum revolver caliber: .38 Special.
Extra magazines / speedloaders are required, the largest (minimum) number of shots with
a handgun in single stage is 13 – this means a minimum of 2 reloads with a 6-shot revolver.
The use of a holster is optional (but encouraged); but for safety reasons, no cross-draw or
shoulder holsters will be permitted.
The program for this year’s Turkey shoot will be similar to the Ham shoot this past spring.
We will again be featuring a Three-Gun stage (shotgun, pistol, and rifle). In addition to your
handgun, you’ll need a rifle (center fire or rimfire) and a shotgun. We recommend a 12 Ga.
shotgun; either a pump or semi-automatic, capable of holding 5 rounds. A side-by-side or
over & under shotgun will work, but you’ll need to do at least a couple of reloads. Either 12
Ga. target or pheasant loads will be adequate for the course of fire, the use of buckshot will
be allowed (for those of you that enjoy recoil and noise), but NO slugs will be permitted.
An AR-15 rifle and a Mossberg 500 pump shotgun will be available for use by those who
don’t bring their own long guns; but please bring your own ammunition if you’re planning on
using a “loaner”.
Time permitting, a 50/50 event ($5.00 entry fee per shooter) will also be held. This fall’s
50/50 will be a “moving target” event – 6 shots with a pistol, from the standing position, at 2
moving IDPA targets, Scoring will be time + 0.5 second penalty per point - 3 hits per target,
using scoring rings on target) – low score wins / ties split.
EYE AND HEARING PROTECTION ARE MANDATORY.
SAFETY VIOLATIONS WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.

Preliminary Stage Descriptions (subject to change):
Stage 1 Targets in Motion
Targets: 3 “Pepper Popper” steel targets, each with an attached pop-up cardboard target, plus
2 moving targets. No-shoot targets are placed also within the field of fire.
Minimum Shot Count: 13 shots (8 shots max. in gun, a minimum of one reload is required).
Start Position: Handgun is loaded and holstered (or held at the low-ready position) with the safety
engaged (pistols equipped with a de-cocker must be de-cocked, revolvers must have
the hammer un-cocked).
Course of Fire: The moving targets will start at the buzzer. The moving targets may only be engaged
while in motion between the end barricades. The Pepper Poppers / pop-ups may be
shot at any time after the buzzer. The first (closest) Pepper Popper must be knocked
down to expose its pop-up target. At least two shots must be fired at the first pop-up
target before shooting the second Pepper Popper. At least two shots must be fired at
the second pop-up target before shooting the third Pepper Popper. The best two hits
per pop-up target and the best two hits per moving target will be scored. Any hits on
No-Shoot targets incur a 10 point penalty each; barricade hits incur a 5 point penalty
each, failure to engage the Pepper Poppers in the correct order incurs a 10 point
procedural penalty.
Scoring: Score is the time to shoot, plus 0.5 seconds per penalty point as follows: a 5 point
penalty for each Pepper Popper left standing, a 5 point penalty for each miss on the
pop-up and moving targets, plus any No-Shoot, barricade hit, and procedural
penalties. Lowest score wins.
Stage 2 Three-Gun Stage
Targets: 5 “Pepper Popper” steel targets, each with an attached pop-up IDPA target, plus 5
clay pigeons at 30 yards.
Minimum Shot Count: Shotgun: 5 shots (5 shots max. in gun, one reload optional).
Handgun: 10 shots (8 shots max. in gun, at least one reload is required).
Rifle: (5 shots max. in gun, one reload optional).
Start Position: Rifle is loaded with the safety engaged and held at the low-ready.
Pistol is loaded and holstered with the safety engaged, or on the 2 nd table with the
safety engaged. Shotgun is loaded with the safety is engaged, on the 2 nd table.
Loaded magazines for the handgun & rifle may be placed on the tables or carried by
the shooter.
Course of Fire: At the buzzer, the shooter will use the rifle to shoot the 5 clay pigeons, when all
targets have been hit (or all 10 rounds have been shot) the rifle shall be placed on
the table, pointing downrange, with the action locked open. The shooter will move to
the second table and use the shotgun to knock down all 5 Pepper Poppers to expose
the pop-up targets. The shotgun may be reloaded once if needed. When all 5 Pepper
Poppers are down (or all 10 rounds have been shot), the shotgun shall be placed on
the table, pointing downrange, with the action open. The pistol is drawn / picked up
and at least two shots must be fired at each of the pop-up targets. When all of the
pop-up targets have been shot, the pistol must be cleared and re-holstered (or
returned to the table). Failure to shoot in the described order or failure to replace any
of the weapons in the described manner will each incur a 10 point procedural penalty
Scoring: Score is the time to shoot, plus 0.5 seconds per penalty point as follows: a 5 point
penalty for each Pepper Popper left standing, penalty points per scoring rings for
each IDPA target with less than two center hits, 5 point penalty for each unbroken
clay pigeon, plus any procedural penalties. Lowest score wins.
